It is a half cabbage. Or a little more than half. And maybe a little overripe, so to speak, so it’s getting more stem-y instead of being compact.
Makes it easy to see how it’s related to broccoli and brussels sprouts (same species, like a poodle is the same species as a basset hound). Imagine a brussels sprout cut in half lengthwise. Now imagine you *tried* to cut it in half and just cut off a side while leaving the stem intact. That’s this.
